Another star in the sky of very cheap products has appeared, and this time one of the very big and long-established ones. Amazon wants to stir up the low-cost market and wants to become a direct competitor for Temu, Shein and AliExpress. We explain what this means for Amazon customers.

Not everyone can use the service yet

Amazon has already tested the shopping experience in the USA and the UK has also been allowed to test the new service. As of now, Amazon is also launching “Haul” in Germany. However, not everyone is allowed to participate here, as it is still in a beta version in this country and only selected customers can see the service at all.

The Amazon service “Haul” is only available through the Amazon app. The offers cannot be accessed directly on the website. Nor is it advertised on the web. If you are interested, you should open the Amazon app to see if you can buy very cheap products.

How can I test whether I am already allowed to use the service?

To test whether you can already be there, all you have to do is open the official Amazon app. After that, you simply have to enter the search term “Haul” in the search bar and after a short check, you will land on the landing page for Amazon Haul.

If you are eligible, you will be shown a colorful page, in the style of Temu and Co., where many cheap products with many discounts are displayed. The palette ranges from clothing to home and care products.

Does the service cost anything?

Amazon really wants to become a competitor to Temu and Co., so the service is of course completely free of charge for users. However, Prime’s shipping system will certainly be used here again, where only Prime customers can get free delivery.

The prices of the products are to be pushed down considerably, so that many products are offered far below 10€. Basically, you can assume that you won’t spend more than €20 per product.

Imported goods from dealers, as with the competition?

Unlike Temu, Shein and Co. Amazon will sell and ship the goods completely itself. For example, no marketplace is planned, as with the other portals, and you can look forward to the mostly simple processing and shipping via Amazon as usual.

However, you have to live with the fact that Amazon will also ship the goods from Asia and therefore delivery times of up to 2 weeks should be planned.

What products will Amazon Haul offer?

Amazon will focus on household, fashion, home and lifestyle with its new service. Electronic items should not be offered because they often do not comply with EU directives and thus also entail risks.

The other large providers already account for 6 percent of German online retail. This large sum has only risen so rapidly in recent years and that’s why Amazon naturally wants to take this trend with it and get into this business.

What about customs?

There is still the exemption limit for deliveries under a value of €150. However, the EU is already planning to set the duty-free border below this value and also make a fee per parcel necessary.

But time will tell what the situation is with Amazon, as Amazon still sends packages outside the EU duty-free if they are the retailer and shipper themselves. Thus, Amazon has always taken care of customs duties and processing for its customers. Time will tell whether this is also the case with Haul.
